Services

At Crossways Garage we believe in providing our customers with a first class service with all areas of our business.  As you will see below we offer a wide range of services including MOTs, vehicle road side recovery assistance and petrol and diesel. Our main garage is open from Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:30pm and Saturday, 8:30am - 1:00pm. A 24-hour call out service is available at other times and a call out charge applies.

MOTs

If your car is 3 years or older it is by law that your car requires a safety check, namely an MOT (ministry of transport test). You require having this safety check every 12 months by a person authorised by a government body, namely VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency). Crossways Garage has a fully qualified nominated tester and is able to conduct a detailed inspection and a comprehensive series of checks around your vehicle. 

Here are a series of checks included with the MOT: 

Vehicle identification Number

Not more than one different identification number should be present on a vehicle first used on or after 1 August 1980. However, the same number may be displayed in more than one place.

Registration Plate

We will inspect condition, security, legibility and format of letters/numbers of the registration plates.

Lights

We inspect and test the condition, operation, security and correct colour. The headlamps will also be checked to see if the aim is correct.

Steering and suspension

We will thoroughly inspect correct condition and operation of steering and the vehicles suspension.

Wipers/Washers

We will inspect and test the operation of the vehicle's both fron and rear windscreen wipers and washers to give the driver a clear view of the road.

Windscreen

Condition and drivers view of the road will also be inspected.

Horn

The horn will be tested for correct operation and type.

seatbelts

All seatbelts installed are checked for type, condition, operation and security. All compulsory seatbelts must be in place.

seats

Front seats are checked to verify they are secure. Front and rear backseats can be secured in the upright position.

Fuel system

The fuel system will be checked for leaks, fuel cap fastens correctly and seals securely. The fuel cap will need to be opened. Make sure the key is available.

exhaust emission

The vehicle will be checked for exhaust emission levels to meet certain requirments. These emission levels vary on the age and fuel type of the vehicle.

The vehicle's exhaust system will be inspected for the exhaust to be complete, secure, without serious leaks and silences effectively.

Vehicle Structure

The whole vehicle will be carefully inspected for free from excessive corrosion or damage in specific areas. The vehicle will also be examined for no sharp edges.

Doors

The examination on the vehicles doors will include the verification that the doors open and close accordingly. The door's latch is securely in closed position. The front doors should open from inside and outside the vehicle. Rear doors may need to be opened to gain access to testable items.

The mirrors will be exmined for presence, condition and security.
 

Wheels and tyres

All the vehicles wheel and tyres are examined for their condition, security, tyre size/type and tread depth. Spare tyres are not inspected.

brakes

The vehicles brakes condition operation and performance (efficiency test) are also included in the examination. Wheels are not removed during the test. The tester only examined what they can see, reach or feel.

Vehicle Servicing and Repairs

We service all different makes and models of vehicles right up to as large as 7.5 tonne trucks. All vehicles are serviced to a high standard, which is checked and governed by the good garage scheme. We can service  new vehicles to the manufacturer’s specification and also provide you with documentation as evidence. Your newly purchased vehicle’s warranty will still be intact. Additionally, as a bonus, Crossways Garage will charge you at a fraction of the price compared to the vehicle dealers servicing charges.

Why should I service my vehicle? 

You can service your vehicle every year or every 12,000 miles, whatever comes first. Servicing will maintain your vehicle, which reduces the risk of the vehicle breaking down and costing you more money. By servicing your car at regular intervals you will be helping to maintain your vehicle's value. 

What is involved with servicing my vehicle?

There are 3 options to servicing your car at Crossways Garage. Here are your servicing options:

Service Option 1 - Full Service

First option is the full service, which is ideal for an annual maintenance programme for your vehicle and is recommended every 12,000 miles or 12 months – whichever is sooner.  Here is an overview of what is included with the Full Service:

1. Oil and oil filter change.
2. Fluid check and refills including brakes, power steering, windscreen and anti-freeze fluids.
3. Essential checks such as lights, brakes, steering, shock absorbers,  tyres and wheel alignment.
4. Replacements such as spark plugs, air filter, wheel bearing check.

Service Option 2 - Interim Service

An Interim Servicing is for vehicles used for short, mainly urban journeys or for those who wish to service vehicles doing very high mileage more regularly. A vehicle that has an Interim Service every 6,000 miles or 6 months can help provide the vehicle with safe and roadworthyness between full services. Here is an overview of what is included with the Interim Service:

1. Oil and oil filter change.
2. Fluid checks and refills including brakes, power steering, windscreen and anti-freeze fluids.
3. Essential checks such as lights, battery charge and condition.

Service Option 3 - Oil Service 

The Oil Service option is a great supplement for the above 2 services if you plan to go on a long journey or wish to treat your vehicle to an oil and oil filter change . Here is an overview of what is included with the Oil Service:

1. Oil and oil filter change
2. Fluid checks and refills including brakes, anti-freeze  fluids.

Tyres and Wheel Alignment

We also carry out super fast tyre fitting and wheel alignment at very competitive prices. All makes of tyres can be catered for but if we do not have your preferred make of tyre we will order this make of tyre which is delivered to Crossways Garage very quickly. We currently stock TOYO tyres and budget quality types of tyres to suit your budget.

24 Hour breakdown Recovery Assistance

At Crossways Garage, our road-side recovery service is available 24-hours in the day and 365 days of the year. Therefore, you can rest assure that we will be by your side if you ever require road-side assistance anywhere in the United Kingdom. We work parallel with two of the UK's most reputable motoring associations, the AA and the RAC.  We also pick up all kinds of vehicles such as cars, motorcycles, trailers, camper vans and light commercial vehicles .

Petrol, Diesel and Convenience Store

As we have mentioned before, we also cater for all your motoring requirements.  These include reasonably priced unleaded petrol, Diesel and the best motoring oil money can buy. You can also visit our convenience store where we provide goods such milk, newspapers, drinks, and household goods.  Our staff are very friendly and will assist you with any of your queries you may have.

Our opening and closing times are:

Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 10:00pm

Saturday and Sunday, 8:00am - 10:00pm

Hot & Cold Food Takeaway

How about dropping in for some delicious hot or cold food at our Deli takeaway? Our caring and friendly staff will cater for all of your hot or cold meals. Our Deli takeaway if open from Monday to Saturday between the times of 7:00am- 3:00pm.

Car Wash, Vacuum, Air & Water

If you need to clean that car or need to hoover up the kids mess made in the back seats we have a powerful Jet car wash and a very effective vacuum cleaner. You can have your vehicle washed and vacuumed within six minutes at a very affordable price.

We also provide air for all vehicle types, including bicycles, and water for topping up your windscreen washers.

Our prices include:

Car wash - £1.00 for 3 minutes and can be changed to any program you want within that time, usually £2 to wash a standard car.

Vacuum - £1.00 for 3 minutes.

Air - £0.20p for 15 mins.

Water - FREE.
